Classes

  • The Umóⁿhoⁿ-Póⁿka Summer Institute welcomes everyone who loves the language, whatever their language level. The learners’ track is designed for beginners, whereas fluent speakers and current teachers are encouraged to take the teachers’ track.

    Students in each track attend two classes per day: one in the morning (9am – 12.15pm), and one in the afternoon (1.15pm – 4.30pm).

    • Communicative Omaha-Ponca I
      Communicative Omaha-Ponca I Always been meaning to learn the language? This crash course gives beginners a strong foundation in vocabulary, building basic sentences and holding simple conversations. Using activities from the brand new Umóⁿhoⁿ Íye-wathe! Let’s Speak Omaha! Level 1 textbook, students will learn to introduce themselves, describe the natural world, discuss kinship and more – all in the language! This class will give you the tips and tricks to start your journey off in the right way.
